ABOUT DISTRICT COURT

As the history says in Pre-Independence times, Ramanagara town was ruled by the British officer "Sir.Barry Close"(1756-1813). Hence it was earlier called Closepet. Subsequently it was renamed as Ramanagara by the Former Chief Minister of Karnataka State Sri.Kengal Hanumanthaiah.Another renowned personality by name Sri.Kempegowda is from Magadi taluk of Ramanagara District.The Ramanagara District which was earlier part of Bengaluru Rural District was bifurcated and reconstituted in the year 2007 with the District Head quarters at Ramanagara along with three other Taluks viz. Channapatna,Kanakapura and Magadi. Ramanagara is well known for its sericulture, and is nicknamed Silk City. The silk produced in this region forms the input for the famous Mysore Silk. Ramanagara is the largest market for silk cocoons in Asia. 50 tonnes of cocoon a day arrive at the town.

The District and Sessions Court Ramanagara was established on 01.10.2007 after the formation of new district of Ramanagara consequent on bifurcation of Bengaluru rural district into Bengaluru rural and Ramanagara district.
